Bharati College Celebrated ‘Antradrishti’ – A Program for Disable Students

Amidst these difficult times of covid pandemic, Bharati College has been working to provide its students with all kinds of facilities that ensure uninterrupted teaching and learning activities and strengthening of bond between teachers and pupils. In this direction, the College is committed towards disable students for whom the pandemic created tougher challenges like inaccessibility of online education, lack of teachers’ guidance and supervision and paucity of resources. On April 3, 2021, the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) and the Enabling Unit of Bharati College organized Antradrishti – an annual and cultural fest. Attended by the hundreds of students from the colleges of Delhi University and universities nationwide, the program started with the opening remarks of Dr Rajni – the convener of EOC – followed by the lecture of the principal, Dr. Rekha Sapra, who enlightened the students on gender sensitization. Dr. Sapra focused on the patriarchal structure of societies globally and how this system put obstacles against women and the condition becomes even more difficult for disable women. The second speaker Prof. Sanjeev Kumar from the Department of Political Science, University of Delhi, lectured on ‘Self Help’ –a profoundly important topic for disable students amidst these times when they need continuous mentoring, moral boost and motivation to work for their betterment. Among the speakers, Mr N Sivaji Rao – managing trustee of Help the Blind Foundation – stressed on the empowerment of disable students by educating them, professionally train them for industrial jobs and sensitizing the public.  With this, the first part of the program ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. Dinesh Kumar from the Department of History, Bharati College. The second part of the program incorporated three competitions – Self Made Poetry, Debate and Folk Song Singing – in which more than 20 disable students participated. The competitions were judged by the members of EOC – Dr Asha Tiwari, Dr. Sarita Pathak, Dr. Shalu Kaur and Mr. Chetan – who encouraged students and boosted their confidence. These competitions not only fetched reward money to winners but also instill a sense of self-respect. Disable students should not consider themselves marginalized and separated from others rather continuously strive and struggle for their rights.
